Abstract

Purpose : This study was to investigate on the life satisfaction of primary caregivers for the hospitalized elderly in cancer.

Methods : The subjects were 181 elderlies in cancer who were undergoing caregivers in the hospitalized care unit of one university hospital in B city. The data were collected by structured questionnaire from August 4 to 31£¬2009.

Results : The subjects were experienced level of burden(67.98¡¾14.16), quality of depression(3.19¡¾2.26)£¬ and life satisfaction(83.94¡¾12.55). Life Satisfaction of subjects showed statistically significant differences according to education level, leisure activity level, number of caregivers, economic state, monthly income, care argument, existence of shift person, patient family function perform degree, past relationship, health status. Life Satisfaction an inverse relationship in a medium degree with quality of burden(r=- .518, p= .000), quality of depression(r=- .495£¬p= .000). Burden is the most powerful factor among the factors on life satisfaction by 28.8%£¬ followed by the depression by 35.1%, followed by the health status by 37.3%, followed by the leisure activity by total 38.9%.

Conclusion£º It is necessary that the development of nursing intervention programs which will decrease the burden and depression increasing the life satisfaction in these primary caregivers of the hospitalized elderly in cancer.
